In Southern France, in the historic city of Arles stands unapologetic Frank Gehry's architectural anomaly, the Luma Arles Art Center centerpiece. The tower twists up in stark contrast to its surroundings. Futuristic aluminum paneling covers the exterior drawing the attention of all those who visit the art center. Limestone cliffs that surround the city were the inspiration behind the jagged architecture. When complete, the Luma Arles Art Center will include art studios, research facilities, auditoriums and workshops inside the tower and a new public park designed by landscape architect Bas Smets. In a city known as once home to Vincent Van Gogh, the newly renovated art center will be another welcome tourist attraction.

PES-Architects, a firm whose Shanghai office has recently moved to it's new location in the French Concession area of the Xuhui District, designed the Wuxi Grand Theater in Wuxi, Jiangsu, China. "The new complex contains a wide variety of functions, but most noticeably it will house the 1680 seat Grand Theatre for classical and Chinese opera, ballet, and symphony orchestral music and a Comprehensive Performance Hall with a capacity 690 seats. The main architectural image of the Wuxi Grand Theatre consists of eight leaves, or wings, which, together with the terraced stone plinth give the impression of a butterfly descending onto the shore of the Wu-Li Lake. This artist and sculptural form creates a landmark building for Wuxi’s new performing arts center." - PESARK

LEED or Leadership in Energy and Envorinmental Design, is an internationally recognized mark of excellence in building and construction of sustainable structures. The VanDusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre looks to exceed 'LEED Platinum' status, designed to reach the most stringent measurement of sustainability; the 'Living Building Challange." Inspired by the organic form and natural aesthetic of a native orchid, with undulating green roof 'petals' that float above rammed earth and concrete walls. Creating a harmonious balance between architecture and landscape, the Visitor Centre uses filtered rainwater and treats 100% of blackwater in an on-site bioreator. Now that's being one with nature. Designed by Chicago based Perkins + Wills, the pictures will amaze.
